A place to gather in celebration, play and explore, share secrets in the shade, dance in dappled light or seek solitude. In a fast-paced world gardens encourage us to slow down, to be curious and reward us for patience.

Here in Perth, we are incredibly fortunate to live within one of the world's biodiversity hotspots, home to an extraordinary diversity of plants found nowhere else on Earth. Perfectly adapted to our climate and soils, they are not only resilient but fascinating, beautiful and capable of creating gardens full of character and delight.

I believe landscapes should enrich the lives of the families who inhabit them while making a meaningful contribution beyond their boundaries.

Every garden is an opportunity to improve a small piece of the world.

Hi, I’m Paula.

I'm a landscape architect based in Perth with over 20 years' experience working across Australia and internationally before establishing Common Wild.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Western Australia, I moved to Sydney before spending several years in London and Shanghai. My work ranged from contemporary urban plazas and university campuses to rambling rural estates. These experiences broadened the way I think about design, landscape, culture and place.

Returning home gave me a renewed appreciation for the extraordinary landscapes of Western Australia. It inspired me to create gardens that feel deeply connected to their environment while celebrating the beauty and resilience of our local flora.

I combine technical rigour with playfulness and curiosity. My gardens are memorable, immersive and grounded in place. They embrace the tension between structural order and wildness.

My Approach

Every garden begins with its context: the architecture, the existing landscape, the climate and, most importantly, the people who will live there. My designs balance strong architectural structure and robust materials with textured, layered planting. Wherever possible, I prioritise Australian native plants creating gardens that support local biodiversity while celebrating the unique character of Western Australia's flora. I also favour sustainable materials, retaining and repurposing existing features wherever possible. Above all, I believe gardens are living places that grow richer and more beautiful with every passing season.

My services cover every stage of the design process, from the initial consultation and concept design through to detailed documentation, planting design, plant sourcing and support during the construction phase. Whether you're creating a garden for a new home, undertaking a complete garden transformation, reimagining an established landscape or simply refreshing your planting, I can tailor my services to suit your project.

Let’s Work Together

I enjoy working with clients who value thoughtful design and gardens that welcome nature in. If that sounds like the kind of garden you're hoping to create, I'd love to hear from you to discuss your project.
